You’re right Lindsay, he didn’t congratulate Leon but at least Dannii, his mentor, did. But unfortunately I don’t think Leon will be slapping Syco on the faces if Creative is a success because the people from Syco will be too busy laughing all the way to the bank if it is
I am a bit more synical… I reckon Simon isn’t that bothered with the Riddler or Leon-they both appeal to different markets. I wouldn’t at all be suprised if Simon just said that stuff or was misquoted to get Wales to buy the Riddler album. I really will never buy an XF album because of it now. Coudn’t bring myself to buy the Heros CD even though it was a good cause because of the whole geraldine fiasco. ( I bought lots of poppies thought to make up for my guilt!)
Leon is a superstar with personality- he is so lovable and you can tell he has such a strong fan base.
I think Leon has had quite a bit of exposure- he’s been on TV a few times, in lots of magazines and lots of christmas lights stuff. And landing at Gig on CIN! Fantastic, so i don’t think we can really blame syco so much, they have done something but it’s not as much as they could have done.
Here comes the manager in me-someone needs to have it in their objectives to make Leon a superstar...It’s specific, it’s measurable, it’s realistic and the timeframe- is open for debate.

But not much radio play which i think drives sales. I’m doing my bit though - every opportunity i get i bang on about him in the office. I even bought DCTL CD for someone as part of a leaving present ( i thought once she listened to it, she would buy the album...she did!)
I am sure i will be banned from my local HMV soon- i keep telling people to buy RN. THey must think i’m a nutter- i’m not, quite square and sensible really. Married, middle aged, 2 daughters and a working mum. Square and sensible and yet Leon has got me buying music for the first time in years.

Tarasmi, I’m glad to hear how determined you are in helping Leon to do well - it’s very encouraging to his other fans. It’s more people like yourself that he needs!
And I totally get what you’re saying about Simon not being too bothered, albeit I do think a little differently on it. I was just about to post, before I read your post, that I think that if it is true that Simon has been saying these things about Leon & Rhydian, it seems that they’re just keeping Leon there to secure themselves a temp to bring in the becon until Rhydian does well for them. If all else fails with regards to Rhydian’s career, the way they see it is that at least they’ll still have Leon to later build on with the next album or so.
Perhaps I’m thinking far too far into it & we probably will not fully know what the intentions of Syco are until Rhydian’s material is released but intentions for Leon are definitely not at the heart of Syco.
I cannot believe this! Poor Leon. So much for Simon ‘Looking out for him’ like he said at the final last year! When Leona was on last Saturday, I knew Simon would have said a few words...he never uttered a word to Leon! He needs support and it’s clear Simon isn’t doing this...only last week he said Rhydian’s album would be the ‘Album of the year’, I mean how do you think that makes Leon feel? On Saturday all we’ll get is Simon praising Rhydian and predicting that he’ll be massive, he’s being treated as if he won the show.
It doesn’t even matter who the viewers want to see as the winner now because if Simon likes them, they’ll be given a recording contract anyway!
Leon you’re a star and I hope this doesn’t get you down. Creative will be a great single and hopefully a top 3, if not a number one.

I am not surprised by Simon’s comments - I said as much in a similar thread last week.Simon and Louis both repeatedly ranted about Rhydian being world class on last years X factor and their so called delight for Leon when he won was unconvincing. They are both hard headed businessmen who take part in X factor quite simply to make loads of money. Their ‘support’ for the acts that they mentor is a big act which has gotten less and less sincere since the first series.
I dont care about either of them - but I do care about Leon and it worries me that his album hasn’t sold as well as I thought and hoped it would.
Creative needs to be a massive hit and Right Now needs to climb back up the charts - or Simon will drop Leon from his cash cow record label like a hot brick. Simple as that- he wont nurture or promote Leon the way we all want him to - thats not how he does business.
What I am surprised about is that Simon had the tactlessness to say it publically that in my eyes is unforgiveable and demonstrates an arrogant and condescending attitude to the people (us) that line his pockets by watching the show, voting, buying the winners single, going to the tour and then supporting the chosen winner afterwards.
I have no issue with others from the show receiving a record contract however to treat the viewers with such disdain just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
I urge all Leon fans to never vote in the X Factor again (remember if your fave is good they will get a contract anyway), do not go to the tour, do not buy the winners single and apart from Leon never purchase another Syco record again.
I really hope there are some or at least one exec at Sony that see what we see in Leon and he has been taken under their wing. If not well then I hope there is someone else out there from another record company that does.

I agree, we really do have to support leon at this time and let him know how much we love his music. I think the albums great with amazing tracks but for him to be treated like that is bang out of order. Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell never convinced me compeltly from the start, they’re in a show like that for money.
To be honest i knew Leon was probably not going to be as big as Leona, but they’re 2 different artists who can’t be compared.
I feel sorry for leon at this point in time, to think someone trusts in you and supports you and then find out they don’t must be heartbreaking for Leon. This is all he wants in life is to do his music and have a sucessful carrer and i’ll do anything just so he can get that dream because not many people where me and Leon come from get the chance to do what he’s doing, i mean some people can only dream of it.
I think after christmas Leon needs to start looking for a new label shouldn’t be hard because he’s amazing and has a lot of talent but sony are just taking the p*** out of him and quite frankly its not funny.

I think the recent documentary on Rhydian shown on Welsh TV, gives us some insight into how Leon is being handled by Syco…
Simon wanted Rhydian to win XF, he was bitterly disappointed that he did not, that’s why he offered Rhydian a £1m contract and has gone to great expense on his album.If you want proof -
So Simon has a winner he doesn’t want but he has to go through the motions of support. My thread re Leons CIM performance I mentioned - lack of gigging by Leon, throwing him onto first XF show in the context of no recent performance - wishing he’d perform badly maybe? the Peter Kaye single out the same week as Leons and the Ch 4 programme was made in the XF studio - Simons support for PKs project which effectively ridiculed the winner.
My view is that Simon is doing just enough to insure no major comeback re his lack of support for Leon..he can then blame the public for not buying the album or not buying into the winner, as in his eyes, the wrong person won. Watch him support Rhydian this weekend.
I still love Leons album, it may have been simply produced but I love what they came up with...love his voice.I just now feel a light bulb has gone on in my head, that as always Simon gets his own way and he has the power to insure failure and success (to sone degree) in the record industry.
The thing with Simon, if he cares about you he’ll move heaven and earth for you as an artist. I did wonder why Dannii made that odd statement after Leon performed on XF a few weeks back..’Simon didn’t want Leon in the competition last year’...very odd to say that infront of Simon on national TV and Leons big performance night...or maybe she was just letting us gain an insight to the challenge Leon faces.
The good news is that Right Now is up to 42 in the midweeks and Creative has been playlisted C on Radio 2.

I haven’t posted in a long while but your post really moved me and made me sad for Leon. It is a really tough industry.
I ordered RN from Amazon.co.uk and have been playing it a lot. The album is quite good - I haven’t owned a record this good since Tapestry (Carole King) where all songs are very good. I am dating myself here.
I agree that if the record producer wants to promote an artist, it will happen. I remember posting something about some American singers whose singles were played on the radio over and over again because the record company paid the radio stations to play them.
So, I totally agree with you QM. Leon never had the real support of Simon. But I honestly believe that like in the X Factor, Leon will prove them wrong once again. You simply can not put down a person who is talented, hard working yet an honest and good person. I do not want to invoke anything religious here but I truly believe that sooner or later, it will happen. Leon will triumph in the end.
As a newbie round here, I would just to say how much we all support and love Leon! He has fantastic fans who really care about his future and development. We have a lot to be positive about, the thing is you can’t worry too much about the what if’s and past events. We have to look to Leon’s future. Ok, at the moment Syco seem to be more behind Rhydian, but things can change so rapidly. I think in our hearts we knew Simon always wanted another winner and he is brutally honest at times, making him not particuarly sensitive but this could change over time. If not, as Leon becomes more confident he might be in a position to move to another label. I think the problem initially has been lack of airplay (for example Alesha Dixon has been played to death on Radio 2) and promotion, but things should move forward now.
The pressure will be off soon once we get a new X factor winner and they will get all the scrutiny and critique that Leon has had. Leon can start to move away from the ‘X’ factor label and develop his own sound.
Lets show him how much we care and love his music.
