Part 1 – The First Encounter
I suppose my story starts a few years ago. It was just before the start of the X Factor tour, and in a few days I would be seeing Leon Jackson live. I was ecstatic. It had taken me ages to persuade my mam to let me go, as there wasn’t going to be a venue anywhere near where we lived, and she couldn’t take me because she was away on business through the whole duration of the tour. But she eventually decided I could go to the tour in Glasgow by myself, and stay in a hotel there night of the tour.
I travelled to Glasgow on the train the day on the tour, ipod on all the way, When You Believe on repeat.
I must have started humming it at one point, because people were giving me strange looks. But what did I care, I was going to see Leon live!
When I finally got off the train in Glasgow I was shattered, but as soon as I saw a poster advertising the tour, all my energy came whizzing back. I had to hold on to my seat for the entire bus journey to my hotel, just to stop myself jumping up and down, screaming with excitement. I jumped off the bus, checked in, and ran up to my room. I really love my mam. She had booked me in to this gorgeous five star hotel, and my room was more like a suite.
I flopped backwards onto the bed and grinned to myself, sure this was going to be the best trip of my life. Only at that moment, I didn’t know quite how spectacular it was going to be….
It took me ages to get ready, but when I looked in the mirror I was satisfied. I’d bought myself a short, strapless, blood red, cocktail dress. My mam had burst out laughing when she first saw it, saying it was much too old for me, but when she saw it on she gasped and said I looked gorgeous. I thought gorgeous was probably a bit of an overstatement, but I was pleased about what I had seen in the mirror. The night of the tour I was wearing the dress, with black stilettos, my hair in tight curls. I was satisfied as I walked out of the door of my plush suite, and down to the road outside to find my taxi. I clambered in and leant back, breathing in the sickening yet sweet scent of new leather. I felt incredibly grown up. This was my first trip away without any type of guardian, and I was determined to enjoy it to the full.
